#29 Baking and Improvement
Today I baked another cake (you can see pictures of the one I baked the other day at my other blog. I'm not sure why I've suddenly had a craving to bake a victoria sponge sandwich as they're not usually my favourite kind of cake - then again, I'm not actually a big fan of cake at all really. Anyway, today I wanted to see if I could make the cake bigger and I'm proud to say that it seems to have been baked without any problems and to top it off - I baked it from memory! With baking there are set rules that you have to follow (I've learnt that for a victoria sponge all four ingredients (butter, caster sugar, eggs and self-raising flour) should be in equal proportions for the best results. But I can't wait til I'm confident enough to try some experimentations - actually, I've already started with cupcakes mixing different types of sugars to see the effects, but I will still have to stay in the general parameters of baking - that's going to be the hard part. I don't know why I want to find the perfect recipe for the perfect cake but I have a feeling it's to do with getting better and knowing that I'm getting better and better at it. I'm improving. And it's not just with baking. I always strive to improve every part of me which is how I know that life will never get boring - there will always be something new to learn or something old to improve on. But I have also learnt not to worry too much when things don't go as well as I hope as feeling like a failure is certainly no way to improve, it's best to just pick yourself up and try again or try something else. It is the trying that matters. Sorry this has been a rather long-winded post but I am simply trying to put down my thoughts and explain them at the same time. Hopefully my blogging will improve with time as well.
